Honoring our Past, Celebrating our Present, Shaping our Future: Celebrating Our Legacy at: Adventists in Ohio will come together this year to honor our past, celebrate the present, and learn how to shape the future for the glory of God. A major convocation on Sabbath, October 22, 2011 (9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.) will bring together Adventists from across Ohio and neighboring states for this day of worship, study, and fellowship. The morning program will give us a rare opportunity to hear a pastor from China report on the acts of God in leading the church in China. Pastor Rebekah Liu, who will shortly receive her Ph.D., in New Testament Theology, is one of four pastors caring for 400 churches in the Sichuan Province of Southwest China. Elder Ted Wilson, President of the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, will present the sermon during the worship gathering. This will be his first formal visit to Ohio since being elected in 2010 to lead the world church. What principles guided the first-century Christians in their ministry and missionary living, and how applicable are those principles to us in today's Western society? This, and related questions, will be addressed by Dr. Ganoune Diop, the Adventist Church's newly-appointed liaison to the United Nations. Among the many musical treats will be the musical concert featuring the 55-member Kettering Praise Orchestra under the direction of Maestro Donald Huff. Included in the day's program will be a very special all-day gathering for youth and a Children's Church in the morning. A free lunch is available for those who preregister online at www.ohioadventist.org. Deadline to register for your lunch is Friday, October 14. Groups need to register with Heidi Shoemaker at the Ohio Conference, 740.397.4665, ext 165 or email information@ohioadventist.org. ACTS 2011 will be held at the Roberts Center at the Holiday Inn, Wilmington, which is conveniently located on I-71, with easy access from all parts of the State. Lodging arrangements should be made directly with the Holiday Inn at Wilmington. |
