Charitable Giving

Your Christmas Lists...

Raj Attiken, President

The Christmas season invites us to open our hearts to God and His gifts. It is a season that kindles the flame of generosity and charity in our hearts. Our gift-giving generally benefits family and close friends. We invite you to consider adding one or more of the following to your gift-list:

  • A gift to a cause or ministry within your local church: most churches have ministry projects that could benefit from increased funding. How about adding one of these ministries to your gift list?
  • A gift to a family in your church or community for whom this Christmas is likely to be a difficult season due to loss of employment, loss of health in a family member, or other reversal in their home.
  • A gift to support the ministries occurring on university campuses in Ohio. Currently, Adventist Christian Fellowship has an active presence in five campuses, touching the lives of Adventist and other students who are away from their homes. Funds are needed to continue and expand this ministry.
  • A gift to support students who need financial scholarships to attend Mount Vernon Academy. Every year we have students who are not admitted to MVA for financial reasons; there also are students who enroll but are not able to complete their year because of a lack of funds.
  • A gift to add two bathhouses at your Camp and Retreat Center in central Ohio. Camp Mohaven serves children, youth, church and community groups through its year-round programs and activities.

Whether your gift is large or small, you will experience the joy of knowing that you blessed someone else with the blessings that God has lavished on you.

Thank you for being generous with your offerings and tithes throughout this year for advancing the kingdom mission of the Church in your local community and in Ohio. May the warmth and gladness of this Christmas season bring you love, hope, and peace.

BREAKING NEWS - Bone Marrow Testing - Cindy Puterbaugh

E-Newsletter of the Ohio Conference of Seventh-day AdventistsNovember 2011
SPECIAL EDITION FAITHPOINTS

HELP SAVE A LIFE!
BE TESTED FOR A BONE MARROW TRANSPLANT TODAY.

Cindy French-Puterbaugh,
Ohio Conference's Associate Superintendent of
Education, was diagnosed with leukemia in August 2011.
She has been fighting this disease ever since.
A bone marrow donor is urgently needed.

"Please read the note below from Cindy, and consider taking immediate action for testing by one of the organizations listed. Feel free to share this urgent need with others.  Thank you for continuing to hold our dear friend and colleague up before our healer God," said Jay Colburn, Superintendent of Education.

Yesterday I found out from OSU that none of my siblings are a match for the bone marrow transplant.  This was disappointing news.  OSU also looked at the national bank - and did not find a perfect match.  I am not totally clear about what is next.  I think that we will meet with OSU again to discuss options.  I did talk to the OSU transplant coordinator about other "volunteers" who had offered to be tested.  I know that a lot of you had indicated your willingness.  There are basically 2 avenues available.

1)     You can participate in a private donor bank.  Your result is only available to me.  There is an initial cost of $175.00.  However, if you are a match, there are no further costs - my insurance would cover.  You would request that the results are sent to the transplant coordinator at OSU, Michelle Johnson, Fax # 614-293-6868.  The website is: www.bonemarrowtest.com.

2)    The other option is the national registry.  The website is:  www.marrow.org There is no cost - however they do ask you for a donation.  This makes your result available to anyone searching for a transplant.  However, the results are posted daily.  OSU watches that registry each day for a possible match for me.

I do know that any potential "volunteers" out there need to be between the ages of 18 and 60.  Perhaps my more mature friends could support someone else who would like to participate ... (smile)

You will also read on the websites that the initial matching is simply done through a cheek swab - painless and easy!  They send you the kit and you mail it back.

Time is of the essence!  It would be best if you were tested before Thanksgiving!

Thanks so much to each of you who support me in so many ways...

Cindy

Conference Recap

Diversity & Mission the Focus of ACTS 2011

On October 22, 2011, members from across Ohio and beyond gathered to

Rebekah Liu
Pastor Rebekah Liu

celebrate the "Acts of the Holy Spirit" in advancing God's mission in the world. The program began with Pastor Rebekah Liu, pastor in a 400 church district in the Sichuan Province of Southwest China, explaining how the Adventist church has grown from no membership between 1957-87 to more than 10,000 members in 2011 through the leading of the Holy Spirit and without the organizational structure of the denomination. Only five Adventist pastors are in the region, four of whom are ordained women. Elder Ted Wilson, General Conference President, shared a speech reminiscent of his inaugural sermon from last summer, closing the session by encouraging constituents to pray in pairs. The day concluded with a presentation by Dr. Ganoune Diop, the Seventh-day Adventist Church's newest voice at the United Nations. Diop focused on the gospel, and helpful biblical principles on a Trinitarian approach to witnessing. Three former Ohio Conference presidents shared memories of their time in Ohio.

Diversity within our denomination as well as within the Ohio Conference was clearly seen throughout the day.  Diversity in music ranged from Southern Gospel and Gospel Bluegrass performed by the Praise Team, to Classical Orchestral hymns and Contemporary Christian Orchestral music courtesy Kettering Praise Orchestra, to the African harmony of Sojourners (from the Columbus Ghanaian Church).  Diversity in programparticipants was visible not only in gender and age, but in ethnicity - Asian, Caucasian, British-Indian, Ghanaian, Hungarian, Senegalese, and Belizean nationalities all represented.  Similar diversity was reflected in the audience as well.

Children and youth were not left out of the day's events.  Children were able to visit "Hometown Nazareth...Where Jesus was a Kid."  Under leadership of Mariya Marton, kids under 12 stepped back in time to experience a food market, rabbi school, carpentry shop, and singing with Joseph the Carpenter. Youth were energized by speaker Seth Pierce (from Seattle, WA) and praise music organized by Steve Carlson, Ohio Conference Youth Director, and his musician friends from California.  Kettering College facilitated team building activities; Spring Valley Academy shared their drama team; and Mount Vernon Academy provided special music.  "This weekend was such a blessing...What an inspiration to see the youth of Ohio united in their worship...expressing their appreciation for the worship they had been able to enjoy.  "I wish we could have this on a regular basis", was mentioned over and over again. God is good, and what a joy it was to be a part of His work!" said Carlson.

Guests walked away from Acts 2011 empowered and encouraged.  Within the commemorative program was a five-page history chronicling and highlighting 150 years of ministry within the Ohio Conference, courtesy Monte Sahlin, Director of Research and Special Projects.  Miss the event?  Visit www.ohioadventist.org in early November to see video links to the main presentations. Photos available on our Facebook page.

Another conference-wide convocation is planned for Sabbath, September 22, 2012.
